When an individual is involved in a car accident, a rush of adrenaline is sent throughout his or her body. An adrenaline rush assists in masking any pain a person may be experiencing. This can last from a few hours to an entire evening. While an adrenaline rush may be beneficial in certain circumstances, it has negative risks for those involved in a car crash.

Car accidents are not only frightening, but may result in serious injuries that an individual may be unaware of. A person involved in a crash may sustain a head injury that results in a concussion. However, he or she may be oblivious to the fact that they hit their head because the adrenaline rush may cause the pain to be blocked.

Once the adrenaline wears off in a person's body, pain will begin to set in. Although soft tissue injuries are most common during a car crash, the biggest concerns are concussions. A concussion is a brain injury that is caused by a blow to the head, which jolts the brain inside of the skull. Oftentimes, a concussion does not leave any visible signs such as bruising or lacerations. While very few people will have symptoms immediately, such as passing out, most people do not.

If you have been in a car accident, it is important to be mindful of some of the signs of a concussion, including:

  • Nausea
  • Dizziness
  • Headache
  • Vomiting
  • Forgetfulness
  • Fatigue
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Unclear speech
  • Sensitivity to light or sound

If you are experiencing any of the symptoms above, and were recently in an car crash, seek medical attention immediately because you may be suffering from a concussion. While most people fully recover with rest, it may take a few weeks. Furthermore, it is important to avoid any activities during that time frame to ensure that you do not reinjure yourself
